FAQ
Why not buy the land instead of renting it?
Inappropriate occupation of rain forest is very common. Furthermore illegal deforestation ranges from 60% to 80% on land owned by the government, Indians and individuals. The invaders grab the land, deforest it and yet can claim legal title to the property.
Besides that, maintaining these properties demand a high investment in annual taxes and expenses with private security staff to prevent invasions. Thus, we believe that with the Acres Adoption Program we are optimizing sponsorships revenue.
Which are the advantages of joining Adopt Forest?
Our purpose is to increase the environmental awareness of common citizens and of entrepreneurs. The individual sponsor will be granted a Certificate of Participation in his/her name or in the name of any other person he/she determines. As for entities, besides the certification, banners or links in the Adopt Forest website will provide them visibility. The investment is tax-deductible in both the cases.
Our website also provides the “carbon calculator” where anyone can enter data about their behaviour and find out how much carbon is released into the atmosphere every year. After calculating this, one can adopt a certain number of acres in order to zero his/her carbons. So, we hope our project stimulates the participation of environmentally accountable companies.
How can we enjoy the space adopted?
Adopting an acre means more than preserving nature, it also means entertainment. Sponsors can visit their space and know the benefits they provide to the environment. A tour, on the sponsors sole discretion, provides direct contact with the rich and stunning ecossystem of the Brazilian rain forest. A service of air taxi will be necessary to visit some of the remote areas of preservation.
Sponsors will be able to inspect their acres by Google Earth or any other satelite photography system. At the Adopt Forest website you can download Google Earth’s placemark with our waypoints.
What’s the purpose of Adopt Forest?
Our purpose is to act in the preservation of rain forests by means of educational material and the Acres Adoption Program. Thus, we seek to make individuals and companies aware of the environment in order to protect as many acres as possible.
Our efforts focus in South America, mainly in the Amazon region, area where the biggest rain forest is located and where half of the world’s biodiversity is found. Soon, the Acres Adoption Program will extend to the Pantanal Matogrossense and the Mata Atlantica areas.
In order to balance carbon emissions and keep our conscience clean, Adopt Forest offers a safe program that sponsors the protection of important forest reserves, essential for the filtration of the air and production of oxygen.
How is the preservation projectcarried out?
Adopt Forest transfers the major part of the acres adoption revenue to the land owners, who become “protectors”. This is done to prevent any form of land exploration in the adopted areas.
This way we are acting as land owner partners providing them with financial support, so that they do not use the land for plantations, cattle ranching, timber and other natural resources extraction, maintaining the local ecosystem characteristics.
Part of the donations is directed to the Adopt Forest inspection department, which follows closely the work of preservation of the acres adopted. Another part is used to develop environmental education material, in the newsletter format, which is sent to the sponsors and the people who register in the website.
